The Sal Iacono Family Bursary is back!
The Sal Iacono Family Bursary is back, offering five bursaries valued at $1,500 each to students ready to pursue their studies during the 2025/2026 academic school year at Algonquin College in Ottawa, Canada. Application deadline is Sunday, April 13, 2025. Successful candidates will be notified the last week of May 2025.
Originally launched in 2007, this bursary was inspired by values Sal Iacono held close - lifting others, opening doors, and creating opportunities for those with the drive to make a difference.
Since its founding, more than 100 students have been given this chance, launching meaningful careers in fields like veterinary services, occupational health, nursing, and business. Students can use the bursary for any program of choice.
The opportunity
This bursary isn’t about the money alone. It’s about potential and possibility. It’s about being given a fair chance and shot at a brighter tomorrow.
Five recipients will be selected to receive $1,500 each, helping them pursue their post-secondary studies at Algonquin College in the program of their choice. The bursary is awarded based on demonstrated financial need and other criteria, with applications reviewed by an independent selection committee.
The bursary is also open to eligible students applying through Easter Seals Ontario and The Children’s Aid Foundation Ottawa.
What recipients say
Quinn O'Malley, a recent recipient and current Radio Broadcasting student at Algonquin College, shared, “Winning the bursary has allowed me to focus on what I LOVE without worrying about how I’ll pay for my post-secondary education. It’s been LIFE changing! Being chosen for this bursary has been truly freeing, and it lets me focus on what really matters.”
Quinn’s passion for helping others was inspired by life-saving treatment as a newborn and now fuels his dedication to making a difference through radio—a platform where he can share his voice and commitment to charitable efforts. He explains, “The bursary has given me the freedom to pursue my passion. To be chosen as a recipient and trusted to continue Sal Iacono’s legacy of helping others is incredibly touching.”
